NEWTON, N.J. – Sussex County recently hosted the New Jersey Association of Counties’ (NJAC) Northern New Jersey County Commissioners’ Association Meeting at Red Tail Lodge in Vernon, bringing together county officials from across the region to discuss shared priorities and challenges facing county governments.

Commissioner Director Jill Space, Commissioners Chris Carney, Alan Henderson, and David Silverthorne, and County Administrator Christina Marks welcomed county commissioners and administrators from Warren, Morris, Hudson, Bergen, and Passaic counties for this informational and collaborative meeting, organized by NJAC.

During the meeting, NJAC representatives provided updates on state and federal issues affecting county governments, as well as upcoming association events. Representatives from each participating county also shared updates on current initiatives and discussed challenges facing their respective communities.

A key topic of discussion was the rising cost of health insurance, including expenses associated with the State Health Benefits Program. These increasing costs continue to present challenges for counties throughout New Jersey, underscoring the importance of collaboration and the exchange of ideas among local government leaders.

Following the meeting, Commissioner Chris Carney, who serves as Sussex County’s liaison to NJAC, offered the following remarks:

“It was a pleasure to have Sussex County host the New Jersey Association of Counties’ Northern New Jersey County Commissioners’ Association Meeting. The gathering provided a valuable opportunity to showcase all that Sussex County has to offer while bringing together county leaders to discuss the challenges facing our communities. By sharing ideas, experiences, and best practices, we can learn from one another and work collaboratively toward solutions that benefit counties across the Garden State. We look forward to continuing these important conversations at future NJAC meetings.”
